Coaching: Geoscience for Non-Geoscientists

I am a geoscientists with more than 30 years experience in subsurface hydrocarbon exploration and production geology. I have also spent the last 17 years teaching the fundamentals of petrophysics, geophysics and reservoir engineering to multidisciplinary groups.

One of the biggest challenges we face is ensuring that the disciplines are integrated, and yet we are becoming more specialised, making it more difficult to communicate between disciplines.

As a geoscientist with years of experience teaching the other disciplines (as well as the geology!), I am in a good position to explain the geology in terms your discipline will be familiar with.

If you want to ensure your specialist input is adding value to the integrated geo-models, then perhaps I can help you with some focused coaching.

What We Will Do

In our coaching sessions we will aim to:

• Identify what you do and don’t know about geology and the geological controls on rock properties
• Define the ways in which your specialist discipline integrates with the geology
• Practice with case study datasets downloaded from the UK National Data Repository (NDR) and Australian National Offshore Petroleum Information Management System (NOPIMS)
• Review how this knowledge and these skills can be applied to other sectors such as geothermal, CSS and hydrogeology.

How Will The Sessions Work?

We will be using Zoom or MS Teams for videoconferencing, together with Mural (a collaborative white-boarding tool), and a variety of collaborative Google Docs that we can work on together.

How Many Sessions Do I need?

That depends on how much help and guidance you need!  To help us establish your needs, we can start with a free session to get to know each other and define the issues.  Then we can take it from there. You can book sessions on an individual basis or save money by booking blocks of sessions.
