The GeoViewer App will provide a means to illustrate examples of geological interpretations that have been annotated by the interpreter. The geologists interpretation will be displayed in the interpretation window, together with hotspots highlighting the key features.
In “Formative Mode”, clicking on hotspots will reveal explanations of the features tagged by the hotspots in the Information Window. In “Summative Mode” clicking the hotpots will reveal a quiz in the Quiz Window, requiring the user to answer questions on each feature.
In the first instance, the GeoViewer will provide a means to capture case study examples of, for example, interpreted logs, interpreted seismic lines, interpreted outcrop images, interpreted thin sections and so on. This would be a valuable way to share findings between collaborators and to ensure that we have a shared understanding of the features we are working on.
There is then the capacity to generate many examples for users to test their interpretative skills on. Competence is all bout becoming more skillful in the application knowledge and problem-solving methodologies. That takes practice.
